First Step
By Mathias Grund SΓΈrensen (Founder & CEO of Adless)
The manifesto on our landing page is (intentionally) not heavy on details about exactly what it is Adless sets out to do. In this post, I’ll share a few more details.
Recap: The Problem
Adless was, as you might know from our landing page, founded to make the Internet a better place.
From a consumer perspective, we want to address the pain points many of us are faced with daily, some of which include:
- Ads remain ubiquitous.
- Cookie and tracking consent likewise (largely due to the quenchless thirst for private data necessitated by the ads ecosystem).
- Frequent nagging and content blocking to make us sign up for yet another subscription is becoming the norm.
Content creators struggle as well! But for now, let’s stick to the consumer perspective.
First Step: MVP
Within the next months, we will be releasing an MVP of our… subscription platform! π
The irony is not lost on me π But there is more to it than that.
Unlike the subscriptions you see today, our subscriptions are more like Spotify; unlimited access to a benefit (Spotify: streaming of songs) offered by many different content creators (Spotify: artists). The tables below summarize the difference:
Content Creator A | Content Creator B
Benefit 1 | β | β |
Benefit 2 | β | β |
Content Creator A | Content Creator B
Benefit 1 | β | β |
Benefit 2 | β | β |
An important distinction from Spotify (and essentially all of our competitors) is however that Adless is not a content aggregator. That is, we integrate with content creators' distribution platforms rather than trying to replace them.
This is an important distinction from a consumer perspective because we do not aim to create yet another closed platform. Rather, we want to open up paid platforms and allow independent content creators to make a living even without joining a platform.
For content creators, it creates much better terms for building a brand, standing out, and interacting with the audience - something that can be hard to do if you are forced onto a platform you have little to no influence over. This is a fundamental benefit of the decentralized Internet.
The Road Ahead
We believe the Internet should be decentralized. We also believe that when centralization occurs, everybody deserves to get paid for their contributions and not just the platform owners. These are core values that support how we shape our products and solutions.
I fully recognize that our subscription concept - and the ecosystem we build around it - is not a solve-all solution. We have much more planned and I very much look forward to sharing more details on the bigger picture and the role of our subscription concept in it. But for now, let’s get that MVP ready for business π
Are you also excited about making the Internet a better place?
While we are not hiring at the moment, we are looking for people who care about the problem and might want to be part of the solution as we scale up the team within the next year. Reach out to [email protected] and we will arrange for a discrete and confidential chat or call!
